Please join us in welcoming our new Alumni Relations Director Rod Guptill. We are delighted to have Rod join our Development team, alongside Allen Price and Debbie Benson.
As a Kingswood alumnus, Rod is excited to reach out to our alumni and connect with them. He wants to hear their stories, what they are up to presently, and where God has led and is leading them.
Rod started out in Civil Engineering at the University of New Brunswick as a young man. He shares, “The last thing on my mind was to serve Christ. All I was interested in was finding a job that made money.” However, soon after, he surrendered his life to Christ and felt called into full-time ministry. He enroled at Kingswood and graduated with his B.A. in Religion in 1981.
During a missions emphasis week at Kingswood, Rod felt called to full-time mission work. After planting a church in Brampton, he and his wife Joy (Silfwerbrand), also a Kingswood alumnus ‘80, began a journey serving with Global Partners for the next twenty-two years. In 1987, they travelled to Colombia and ministered there for fourteen years. Next Rod became the regional director for the Hispanic Caribbean area for eight years. His main duty and passion was to train national leaders of the various churches for effective ministry.
Throughout this time, Rod found his way back to Kingswood. He was the missionary in residence from 2001-2003 and served as the missions teams coordinator from 2005-2009.
Rod then served as pastor of Woods Harbour Wesleyan Church in Nova Scotia for eight years. Concluding their time there, he and Joy hoped to do further mission work in Cuba but God had other plans for them. The couple believes in “blooming where they are planted” and are delighted to be here on the Kingswood campus once again. They are looking forward to connecting with current students and alumni. Rod and Joy have three children and three grandchildren.
