Sports & Recreation Core
I. Introduction to Sport & Recreation Management (3)
Introduces students to the sports and recreation industry, including its structures and key sectors such as professional leagues, amateur sports, intercollegiate athletics, and recreational ventures. The course also addresses sport and recreation as avenues of ministry.
II. Leadership Development through Sports & Recreation (3)
Guides students in identifying their leadership abilities and potential while teaching skills and dispositions to empower others as leaders in their organization or ministry.
III. Managing Events & Facilities (3)
Considers practical and theoretical knowledge for planning, organizing, and executing sports and recreational events and managing related facilities.
IV. Sport, Recreation & Society (3)
Explores the historical and sociological role of sport and recreation in culture, community, and global affairs.
V. Communication & Media (3)
Examines the role of media in sports and recreation, including public relations, social media strategies, and managing relationships with media organizations.
VI. Marketing & Promotion (1.5)
Builds on previous marketing courses by focusing on marketing in sports and recreation, including participant and fan engagement, brand building, and leveraging sponsorships. Prerequisites: Digital Marketing (BUS 125), Advertising (BUS 210).
VII. Financial Management in Sports & Recreation (1.5)
Expands on principles learned in Financial Math and applies them to sports and recreational organizations, covering topics such as budgeting, revenue generation, and financial analysis. Prerequisite: Financial Math (MA 200).
Practical Experience
VIII. Practicum (3)
Provides supervised practical experience that helps students translate a faith-integrated worldview into real-world professional practice.
IX. Supervised Ministry Experience (Internship) (12)
A field experience that allows students to apply classroom learning in real-life settings. Students also engage with a spiritual mentor during their internship, either within the placement or separately from it.
Note: The full degree includes General Education, Bible & Theology, and additional Ministry/Professional requirements as part of Kingswood’s B.A. structure.
