Kingswood University is excited to announce the launch of its first-ever Esports team. This new competitive program is designed to build community, develop leadership, and create meaningful opportunities for students to engage in collegiate competition.

At the helm of this new venture is Kingswood’s own Austin, who now serves as Esports Head Coach.

Meet Coach Austin

Austin grew up in Maryland before spending his teenage years in Central Pennsylvania. It was there, at age 16, that he came to faith in Christ and sensed a call to ministry. He enrolled at Kingswood in 2021 and, fittingly, is still a student as he steps into this new leadership role.

Gaming has been part of Austin’s life for as long as he can remember — not just as entertainment, but as connection.

“Gaming has always been a social experience for me — working with others, thinking critically and quickly, and accomplishing goals together.”

He began competing seriously in April 2021 at his first Super Smash Bros. tournament and has since traveled for competitions and even hosted his own events. While wins are exciting, Austin values the relationships, teamwork, and growth that come through competition.

Now, he brings that passion to Kingswood.

More Than Just Gaming

Esports at Kingswood is about far more than screens and scoreboards.

This program creates space for gaming to be:

  • A constructive social activity
  • A place of healthy, structured competition
  • A source of campus pride
  • A platform for leadership development

As Kingswood competes at the collegiate level, the entire student body can rally behind the team, building school spirit and shared celebration.

But perhaps most importantly, this initiative aligns directly with Kingswood’s mission.

Salt and Light in the Digital Arena

The digital world is one of the largest mission fields of our time.

Competitive gaming environments are often characterized by frustration, anger, and unhealthy communication. Kingswood’s Esports team aims to model something different.

“We preach Christ into this place,” Austin shares. “We carry the gospel of peace with us as proud, respectful winners and graceful, mature losers.”

In every practice and tournament, Kingswood players aim to demonstrate integrity, sportsmanship, and Christ-like character, proving that excellence and faithfulness can coexist in every arena, including the digital one.

This new chapter marks an exciting expansion of student life at Kingswood University. Esports provides students with another avenue to connect and grow, spiritually, socially, and strategically.
