Adam (’06) & Heather (Simpson ’03) Durkee
Congratulations to Adam, who graduated from the University of Technology, Sydney (UTS) in Sydney, Australia, with the Bachelor of Science in Information Technology degree. Adam was awarded the University Medal, the highest accolade from the university which recognizes the student with the highest grade point average in a graduating cohort. Adam and Heather moved to Australia in 2008, and they work at Hillsong Church. Adam is a Senior Software Developer, and he is currently focusing on conference and event registration software. Heather is the Conference Manager for Hillsong Church Australia. She oversees the Registrations department which serves more than 50,000 conference delegates annually.
Michael (‘08) & Janna Cummings
In 2013, Michael married Janna Jay. Recently, the couple became parents of a beautiful baby girl who was born on February 5, 2014. Michael serves as a pastor of Norwood Wesleyan Holiness Church in Montego Bay, Jamaica.
Karen Kay (‘11)
Karen works at the Centre for Arts and Education, a program that is run by the Atlantic Ballet Theatre of Canada. Offering art education to students of all ages, the centre teaches in all three disciplines of acting, singing, and dancing, to students of all ages. Karen teaches music in both the after school and musical theatre programs. In addition, she assists the centre with the many different aspects of putting on a major theatre production each semester. “I come alongside kids and help train them to be the best artists they can be,” said Karen. “It’s a wonderful opportunity and a true blessing.”
Joshua & Lori (Gleghorn ’10) Backman
Congratulations to Josh and Lori on the birth of their first child. Elizabeth Grace was born on April 26, weighing 8 pounds 13 ounces at 21 inches long. Up until the birth of “Lizzie,” Lori had been teaching preschool. The family lives in Scarborough, Maine, where Josh is a Department Manager at Lowe’s Home Improvement store.
We extend our heartfelt sympathy and prayers to the family of Caleb Samuel Medders (FS ’00) who died unexpectedly on April 30. He is survived by his wife, Nalesa (Hatfield ‘04) Medders, sons Jack and Nate, and daughter Anna. Caleb is the son of former KU President, David (and Anne) Medders. Nalesa and the children reside in Melbourne, Florida.
