Where Are They Now? – May 2017

by Kingswood University / Monday, 01 May 2017 / Published in Alumni Connections, News

Dave (’04) and Nicole Lunn

Dave and Nicole are proud to announce the birth of Abigail Grace who was born on February 22, 2017. Dave serves as the youth pastor at Westside Community Church in Morden, MB and is pursuing his PhD in theology through the University of Manchester UK. Along with volunteering in the children and youth ministries at Westside, Nicole works with Manitoba Southern Health as a Families First home visitor.

Jason (’13) and Carolina (’15) Parker

Jason and Carolina have accepted a position at Woods Harbour Wesleyan Church, in Woods Harbour, NS, where they will both be serving together. Jason will be serving as the lead pastor, while Carolina will be serving as the associate pastor. They are super excited for the transition and to be part of what God is doing on the south shore of Nova Scotia. Jason will also be continuing his M.Div. studies at Acadia.

Evan (’10) and Heidi (nee Cheney) Oxner (’12)

Evan and Heidi have welcomed their baby boy John Hutchins Oxner into the world, born on April 21, weighing in at 8 pounds, 15 oz. Evan pastors at Amherst Wesleyan Church. Proud grandparents (Heidi’s parents) are also Bruce (’76) and Roxie (nee French) Cheney (’76).

“Kids Love the Plane”

Jennifer (nee Mitchell ’88) and Richard Marples (’88)

Jennifer and Richard met at Kingswood, and both graduated in 1988. They were married in 1989 while Richard was in flight training at Trinity Western University. They are missionaries with Mission Aviation Fellowship (MAF). They left for Papua New Guinea (PNG) with their three children on December 26, 1998. Following the high school graduation of their third child, on June 1, 2016, they returned to Canada for a sabbatical. While in PNG, Richard held various training and administration positions. Jennifer home-schooled their children for 7 years and then taught high school band and elementary music at the New Tribes Mission School their children attended.

Jennifer and Richard are now heading (still with Mission Aviation Fellowship) to Prairie College of Mission Aviation to instruct and mentor new pilots and their families. They are currently working to engage new ministry partners to re-establish their financial support. MAF is an integral part of thousands of ministries like Samaritan’s Purse, World Vision, and of course, Global Partners. Richard has personally flown in support of the Wesleyan Church in Papua New Guinea many times. https://www.mafc.org/missionaries/marples

Aza Butcher (’08), David (’97) & Bethanie (nee Moore ’97) Klob, Rachel Starks (FS ’06), and Grace Young (’17)

Here’s a wonderful gathering of old and new Kingswood friends. Aza Butcher, David and Bethanie Klob, Rachel Starks, and Grace Young all met up in Calgary, AB. Aza works as the music and worship pastor at the Calgary Standard Wesleyan Church. David is worship pastor at First Alliance Church and is a former Kingswood faculty member and director of worship. In addition to teaching piano privately, Bethanie is a faculty member for the School of Music at First Alliance Church and serves as accompanist for three choirs in Calgary. Grace has been interning under David’s guidance. Rachel is currently living in Calgary but will soon be moving to Boston to commence her Ph.D. in Curriculum and Teaching after receiving a fellowship grant for further study.
