Take a Course for Personal Enrichment

Kingswood Extended offers a large selection of courses for those looking to prepare for effective ministry in the local church through three distinct delivery options: Self-Paced courses, Virtual Classroom courses, and Mentored Cohort courses.  While these courses do meet the academic requirements for licensing and credentialing in the Wesleyan Church through the Department of Education and Clergy Development, they have been designed for anyone in the local church to advance their knowledge and skills. You may also find that completing a certificate might fit your educational goals.

Self-Paced Courses are independent study courses in an online learning management system, requiring the student to plan and execute their own strategy for completion within the course time frame.

Students will work with an instructor to successfully complete all required readings, assignments, papers, and exams by the course closing date. Instructors will be available by phone and by email to answer questions and offer any assistance necessary during the course.

Upon registration, students will receive the course start date, selected syllabus, access to the learning environment, and the course closing date.

PLEASE NOTE:Course closing date is calculated as sixteen weeks from the date of registration.

Virtual Classroom courses typically operate on an eight-week schedule, allowing for one week of pre-course work, six weeks of live classroom instruction, and one week of post-course work.

Classes are four hours in duration and will be held once a week for six weeks on an assigned day, providing a total of twenty-four hours of live classroom instruction.

During the six weeks of live classes, students will log in to a video conference via Zoom. This provides real-time interaction with the instructor and other students in the class, creating a more robust learning environment over independent study.

Instructors will assign out-of-classroom coursework totalling a minimum of fifty hours. Coursework may include reading, response questions, short assignments, projects, and/or papers.

All courses (with the exception of Correspondence Coursesrequire the use of a computer with good internet speeds

For Virtual Classroom Courses you will also need:

  • A computer/laptop with a camera
  • A good internet connection
  • Optional earphones or headset with a microphone
  • A quiet place to attend class

Kingswood Extended provides a mini course on how to use the technology involved in your course so you can be trained before your first day of class.

Attendance

Participation in the live classroom setting is an essential component of the course structure, providing a means of interaction, accountability, and encouragement, and will be necessary to meet the academic requirement for successful course completion. Any student who is absent for more than four hours of live classroom time forfeits the entire course.

Submitting Course Work

All course work will be due one week following the final class. Late submissions will be penalized a 10% grade reduction per week after the deadline.

Extensions beyond two weeks for extenuating circumstances will require approval from the Director of Kingswood Extended and may result in a reduction of the final grade for the course.
