Robert Matthews, M.M.

Director of Worship

Rob Matthews brings with him a wealth of musical experience to fill the role of director of worship. He hails all the way from South Africa. Rob lived there until he married his Canadian wife Julie. They then moved to Canada.

While in South Africa, Rob taught such courses as piano didactics, music methodology, and African percussion at the University of Witwatersrand. He also taught piano and voice at Waterstone College, while overseeing the music department there.

Upon arriving in Canada, Rob worked as a music and English teacher in a tiny Inuit community in Nunavut. In August 2016, Rob accepted the position of director of worship here at Kingswood. Rob shares,

I think it is wonderful that we are so very intentional about our students’ spiritual formation. I’m thrilled that our students attend chapel twice weekly and that we can offer them a platform to grow musically in worship, while also experiencing incredible worship themselves.

Rob is married to Julie and has two young daughters Emily and Kaitlyn. He loves spending time with people, enjoys cooking, and taking in the beauty of the Canadian landscape.
