Benson Athletic Complex Campaign
On Wednesday, March 2, 2016, President Stephen Lennox announced that the initial campaign for an athletic complex was fully funded by Kingswood University alumni Pete and Ginnie Benson.
Because of the Bensons’ generous gift, Kingswood has developed our beautiful 15-acre waterfront property into an athletic complex. Our soccer and football fields, along with a baseball diamond and ice hockey pond (used for irrigation in the summer months) were dug and seeded this past June 2016. On October 21, 2016, we dedicated and officially named it the Benson Athletic Complex.
In addition to their first gift, the Bensons offered a $100,000 in matching funds for the second part of our athletic campaign. Kingswood supporters quickly raised an additional $100,000.
This summer 2017, Kingswood will begin building a beautiful, 2-level clubhouse that will house restrooms, locker rooms, a food servery, and a great room for various community and university functions.
We have moved into our final campaign of raising $300,000. We have already received a matching grant from the Province of New Brunswick for up to $100,000. These funds will be used for the following:
- Clubhouse furnishings
- Maintenance and field care equipment
- Outdoor benches and trash receptacles
- Lighted signage
- Field lighting
- Storage building
Having signed a usage agreement with the Town of Sussex, we will see both our students and community members playing on our fields this upcoming fall. A dream come true!
The Benson Athletic Complex will significantly enhance the Kingswood experience. Through competitive athletic experiences, students will learn to develop better leadership skills, to persevere through struggle, to form stronger friendships, and to learn to be self-motivated and disciplined. This will be in keeping with Kingswood’s mission to equip servant leaders for global impact.
