Take a Course for Personal Enrichment
What are Self-Paced Courses?
Students will work with an instructor to successfully complete all required readings, assignments, papers, and exams by the course closing date. Instructors will be available by phone and by email to answer questions and offer any assistance necessary during the course.
Upon registration, students will receive the course start date, selected syllabus, access to the learning environment, and the course closing date.
PLEASE NOTE: Course closing date is calculated as sixteen weeks from the date of registration.
What are Virtual Classroom Courses?
Classes are four hours in duration and will be held once a week for six weeks on an assigned day, providing a total of twenty-four hours of live classroom instruction.
During the six weeks of live classes, students will log in to a video conference via Zoom. This provides real-time interaction with the instructor and other students in the class, creating a more robust learning environment over independent study.
Instructors will assign out-of-classroom coursework totalling a minimum of fifty hours. Coursework may include reading, response questions, short assignments, projects, and/or papers.
Technology Requirements
All courses (with the exception of Correspondence Courses) require the use of a computer with good internet speeds.
For Virtual Classroom Courses you will also need:
- A computer/laptop with a camera
- A good internet connection
- Optional earphones or headset with a microphone
- A quiet place to attend class
Kingswood Extended provides a mini course on how to use the technology involved in your course so you can be trained before your first day of class.

Attendance
Participation in the live classroom setting is an essential component of the course structure, providing a means of interaction, accountability, and encouragement, and will be necessary to meet the academic requirement for successful course completion. Any student who is absent for more than four hours of live classroom time forfeits the entire course.
Submitting Course Work
All course work will be due one week following the final class. Late submissions will be penalized a 10% grade reduction per week after the deadline.
Extensions of up to two weeks may be granted prior to the final due date, at the discretion of the instructor, without penalty. Extensions beyond two weeks for extenuating circumstances will require approval from the Director of Kingswood Extended and may result in a reduction of the final grade for the course.
Work submitted three weeks after the deadline, without an extension for extenuating circumstances, will not be accepted and will result in a failing grade for the course.
Instructors will submit grades to Kingswood Extended within two weeks from the close of the course. Students will be notified when final grades have been received.
Grading
Students will receive a numerical final grade. A final grade of 76% or above is required to fulfill the academic requirements for credentialing in The Wesleyan Church. Syllabi will include the evaluation guidelines for assessing submitted work.
